APAC Call this Thursday 22 September 2022

Sandeep Bajjuri

Hello everyone,

This week on the joint DIF/ToIP APAC call, our focus is on the events that happened over the last few weeks and a presentation from Silence Laboratories.

Silence Laboratories has been building a library stack to help enterprises adopt decentralized authentication, signature, and authorization. Founded by a strong technical and business team including PhDs and researchers, they have an extremely usable yet secure solution to counter issues with private key management using a fusion of TSS-based cryptography and multiple proofs of colocation, liveliness, possession, and identity. These utilize strong cryptographic primitives, sensor fusion, and peer-to-peer authentication techniques.

Agenda

  • Introductions (5mins)
  • Silence Laboratories (25 mins)
  • Identity Week Asia Recap ( 10 mins)
  • ToIP Summit Recap (10 mins)
  • Open discussion and next meeting topics (10 mins)

Thanks Paul - talk soon

I’m not planning any slides - instead will just do an on-screen walkthrough of the UN paper.  Followed by a call for help and ideas about the single biggest gap - the semantics of trust graphs and how to issue / verify a long chain of linked credentials in a standard way

Re: [all-members] 24 Feb (Thu) 0600 UTC : APAC meeting

Eric Welton (Korsimoro)

I would also like to invite anyone that has the time to join our open DIF-APAC call, happening one hour later.  I've attached the email reminder for the DIF-APAC list below.

I also want to note that one of the Mar 3rd DIF Con APAC sessions will focus on connecting the myraid *-APAC efforts into a larger discussion group that includes policy makers, national identity registry ecosystems, as well as the cryptographic and decentralized identity, credential, and trust organizations.

APAC, LATAM, and Africa represent tremendous greenfield opportunities.  The EU has clearly established leadership in digital trust frameworks, but after my attempt last week to use DIDs and digital signatures to form a U.S. LLC, I was really struck by the APAC opportunities to leapfrog digital transformation.  My LLC effort, while 100% legal was not 'normal', and despite the age of the legalizing legislation, the lack of a culture around digital signatures within the U.S. highlighted that APAC is just now building their legalizing infrastructures.  As Delaware and Wyoming taught me, legislation and law is one thing - but the culture around that law is what matters, and *now* is the time to build both the culture and the law in synchrony across APAC- and what better way to promote Decentralized Identity governed by Trust over IP(v6?) ;)

cheers,

 Eric Welton

I plan to do a quick review of the (draft) India Data Accessibility and Use policy which was recently made available for a public feedback cycle.

DIF Call Reminder - Nov 25, 2021, 2:00 p.m. GMT+7

Eric Welton (Korsimoro)

Greetings DIF Asia Discussion Group Members,

The agenda for this week will focus on

  • a recap of the W3C DID specification challenges from BigTech and Evernym's response
  • some highlights from Identity Week Asia (held Nov 16th & 17th)
  • an open discussion of the recent press releases from Cheqd.io

Cheqd is the newest tokenization of identity data blockchain, following in the footsteps of Civic, Sovrin, Selfkey, Citizenme.com, and others.  We will be discussing the various press releases and partnership information (Cheqd has some interesting partnerships), as well as whether or not the tokenization of identity data has any real viability in ASEAN and APAC.

Some questions we will discuss include:

  • Viability of tokenization of identity data in ASEAN and APAC markets given regulatory blockages for value-bearing tokens in many ASEAN markets, is this concept even viable or is it doomed out the gate?
  • What differentiates each of the existing attempts in the ASEAN/APAC context - e.g. Civic, Selfkey, Sovrin, CitizenMe?
  • How does this differ from credential marketplaces?

Please join us on Thursday at:
